Green is the colour of growth, envy, inexperience, wealth, jealousy and rejuvenation. Conventionally, the colour green implies moderation, tradition and balance. Nature, knows no bounds to inspiration for the colour green. Wander into a space swept with a green grey wash and naturally you will feel peacefully quiet. Frogs, lizards and snakes have the camouflaging green technique perfected.

Green is a secondary colour created by blending the two primary colours yellow and blue. Green falls in the energetic midrange wavelength spectrum where yellow and blue are both reflected causing us to see green.

Decorating with the colour green:

  • Painting ‘fresh fruit salad green’ in a family room is sure to make for a fun-filled playtime. An ‘avocado flesh’ can be teamed with timbers of all hues to create a naturally tropical feel. Marry with burnt orange or sandalwood to add a touch of sophistication. ‘Deep velvet olive’ paint is stunning trimmed with hi-gloss white eco-friendly enamel, and refreshing ‘spearmint’ welcomes a new baby – regardless of sex. Tall glass vases filled with the stems, leaves or branches from your favourite garden plant create focal points worth talking about. This decorating style is so today.

  • Exploited judiciously, green in the main bedroom, encourages calm, balance and rejuvenation. In the kitchen, green is retro and jetson, all at the same time; and in the library: an authenticity only personally loved books exude.
  • Complementary colours that really make green come to life include magenta, violet and purple. Think Wimbledon, grapevines and lavender.

Fields of lucerne, paddocks of yet-to-ripen shiraz, emerging wheat crops and banana plantations are vivid against a clear blue sky. Blue and green should always be seen!

Derived from the Old English grene, or, in its older form, groeni, the word green is thought to actively mean ‘to grow’ (growan) Not only is the word green used to describe the colour green, but also plants, smells, tastes, and topically, eco-friendly or environmentally-friendly practices. Paint itself can now be manufactured using fewer chemicals, emanating less toxic odours or allowing easier clean-up … so the colour green has become truly green.

The ancient Egyptians espoused green as the colour of immortality and resurrection; and today, as mentioned, green is the colour of environmentalism. The Emerald City, capitalism and go – green portrays a proactive personality. For those born in Thailand – on a Wednesday - green is a very auspicious colour.

Green is the colour of Ireland, the traditional colour of Islam and the colour of ecology.
